Clinical Breast Examination

Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) by an experienced breast clinician is an accurate way to detect any palpable abnormality in your breast. Although not a proven screening method on its own, it can be an extremely useful additional test alongside mammography or Digital Infrared BreastScan.

CBE should not replace breast awareness or self examination by patients on a regular basis but we recognise that many will find self-examination difficult and gain much reassurance by having regular CBE also. We can provide CBE by a clinical nurse specialist or consultant breast surgeon (Clinical Director) as part of your screening package.

CBE is suitable for women of any age but especially in younger women where it can be difficult to tell lumpiness from an actual lump.

It can be performed every 3, 6 or 12 months.
